About us:

Dr. Nikola Rajaković, works as a professor at doctoral school of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade. Also, he is a member of SDEWES International Scientific Committee. His research career has been combined with steering roles in government and power industry sector. He has been the leader in 40 projects, and the work package leader of many international project among which 2 FP6 ("VBPC-RES" and "RISE") and the participant in one FP7 ("SUSPLAN"). Areas of his work apart from teaching and research include power system optimization and smart grid applications. His a co-author of 35 refereed full papers in Scientific Journals, 65 refereed papers appearing in Conference Proceedings, 39 Refereed full papers in Scientific Journals (in Serbian), 55 refereed papers appearing in Conference Proceedings (in Serbian), and 9 books (in Serbian).

Dr. Ilija Batas Bjelic, works as research associate at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade and as a general manager of Foundation SDEWES, the Serbian section of SDEWES Centre. His research interest is sustainable national energy system planning by simultaneous modeling of supply and demand side policy measures for the policy objectives achievement and exploiting the synergetic effects between measures and objectives for policy decisions and policy improvements. He has been working at various project proposal and management duties, including H2020 project "CoolHeating", with the decision makers, regulatory bodies, utilities, industry and non-governmental representatives. As a DAAD scholarship holder he has been introduced to energy markets and policies research and models at Fraunhofer-Institut für System- und Innovationsforschung in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Project details:

  1. H2020-LCE-2015-3: CoolHeating - Market uptake of small modular district heating and cooling grids for communities (2016-2018). The objective of CoolHeating is to support the implementation of "small modular renewable heating and cooling grids" for communities in South-Eastern Europe. This will be achieved through knowledge transfer and mutual activities of partners in countries where renewable district heating and cooling examples exist (Austria, Denmark, Germany) and in countries which have less development (Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina). Core activities, besides techno economical assessments, include measures to stimulate the interest of communities and citizens to set-up renewable district heating systems as well as the capacity building about financing and business models. The outcome will be the initiation of new small renewable district heating and cooling grids in 5 target communities up to the investment stage. These lighthouse projects will have a long-term impact on the development of “small modular renewable heating and cooling grids" at the national levels in the target countries. www.coolheating.eu
  2. FP7-ENERGY-2007-2-TREN: Susplan -Development of regional and Pan-European guidelines for more efficient integration of renewable energy into future infrastructures (2008-2011). The overall impact from SUSPLAN is contribution to a substantially increased share of renewable energy sources (RES) in Europe at an acceptable level of cost, thereby increasing security of supply and competitiveness of RES industry. The results will ease PAN-European harmonisation and lead to a more integrated European energy market. The main objective is to develop guidelines for more efficient integration of RES into future infrastructures as a support for decision makers at regional as well as Pan-European level. The guidelines shall consist of strategies, recommendations, criteria and benchmarks for political, infrastructure and network decision makers and power distributors with a time perspective 2030-2050. cordis.europa.eu
  3. FP6-2002-INCO-WBC-1: VBPC-RES -Virtual balkan power centre for advance of renewable energy sources in Western Balkans (2005-2007). Countries in the Western Balkan region have great unexploited potential of renewable energy sources (RES), which could by efficient use significantly contribute to security of supply within the region and wider. Special care has to be devoted to sound solutions for electricity supply of undeveloped and isolated regions due to war damage. The main objectives of the VBPC are: (i) transfer of know-how in RES technology and their implementation for isolated regions, (ii) to identify main economic and legislative factors influencing investment decisions in RES including barriers and local specifics, and to identify options to improve penetration of RES, and (iii) awareness building and education on modes, means and benefits of renewable energy sources. The work within the VBPC will be organized in 4 work packages (WP). First WP will deal with transfer of best practice and best technologies in RES for isolated regions, comprising energy transformation, distribution, operation and control, connection to the local network, energy storage and organizational as also other implementation issues. In the second WP the regulatory framework of each WB country will be analyzed to identify barriers and local specifics. This will be archived by exchange of information on establishing incentives for promotion of RES and experiences with harmonisation with EU legislation in EU, AS and WB countries. Communication and dissemination with key focus groups (policy makers, utilities and SMEs, higher education system) will be the objective of the WP3. For each key focus group of actors important for RES implementation in the region a special dissemination program will be carried out comprising targeted workshops, conferences, public reports and summer schools. The fourth WP will be devote d to project management issues and to support actions and activities in the first three work packages. cordis.europa.eu
  4. FP6-2002-INCO-WBC-1: RISE - RENEWABLES FOR ISOLATED SYSTEMS - ENERGY SUPPLY AND WASTE WATER TREATMENT (2004-2007). The project has as main objective the investigation of the possibilities offered by Renewable Energy Sources, mainly solar, wind and biomass, as well as biogas as a by-product of wastewater treatment, for energy supply in isolated areas. To achieve its goals the Consortium will investigate the application of low-cost innovative RES technologies and will develop innovative decision support and operational tools for a wide implementation of RES in isolated regions for energy supply and wastewater treatment. These tools will be applied to the design of selected study cases from four Western Balkan countries, namely Serbia & Montenegro, Croatia, FYROM and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The selected study cases comprise remote regions, non-connected to the electrical grid, that have been particularly affected by the war and also physical islands. The results of these applications will be projected to alarge scale implementation of RES on a wider scale of isolated regions in these countries. The long-term objectives of the proposal are to contribute to sustainable development of the region, especially in the making good of the consequences of the war in the environment and health. The Consortium comprises Utilities, Manufacturers and Research Organizations from Western Balkan Countries and Research Organizations from CC and EU Countries with particular know-how in large- scale renewable penetration in isolated regions. The project will also significantly contribute to the increase and re-establishment of the collaboration among industry and research /academic institutions of the WB countries and such have positive effect on the overall future development of the region. cordis.europa.eu
  5. National research call: III42009 - Smart Energy Networks (2011-2017). Project research objectives are: smart grids with development of integrated system for analysis, tracking and optimization of electric energy consumption, development of methodology for smart metering and smart grid systems (SM&SG) implementation in distribution networks in Serbia, development of methodology and software applications for processing information derived from these systems in order to improve distribution networks operation and planning, analysis of possibility for use SM&SG for acquiring data from other systems in order to improve distribution networks operation and planning of their development, developing system for acquiring data from switching equipment, improvement of SCADA systems for medium voltage network operation management as well as software applications which are used for data processing in order to improve network operation and to evaluate effects of network management. Expected project results are: new equipment for data acquisition, data transferring and data processing which will be developed for implementation in SM&SG and in SCADA systems for medium voltage network operation management, new methods and corresponding software applications for processing information derived from these systems for improvement of distribution networks operation and planning of their development with special respect to distributed power generation which appears more often in distributive networks as well as possibility of using data from other systems.
